At the conclusion of the second round of eliminations (Dec 12/98) for the 1998-99 BCPA Knock-Outs there are 8 pipers still 'in the running' - from the field of 17 that started the competition.
In January James P. Troy, Christian Hryniw, Alan Walters, and Alan Bevan will compete in their semi-final round.
In February James MacHattie, Ann Gray, Anthony Kerr, and Graham Davidson will compete in their semi-final round.
It is from these eight competitors that the four finalists will be selected.
The Knock-Outs are a 'round robin' type of competition that culminates with the final competition being held at the B.C. Piper's Annual Dinner - in March. Competitors entries were subject to a random draw for order of play, with the first half competing in November (on the 14th), and the second half in December. Four semi-finalists were selected each night and a second random draw was done to determine order of play for round two. Two finalists from each night of round two will be selected to compete in the finals in March.

10/28/98 SFU Kilt ed Drummers at World Drumming Championships
Three drumming members of the SFU Pipe Band Organization have just returned from the world Drumming Championships in Scotland this past weekend (10/24 and 10/25).
J.Reid Maxwell placed 5th in the finals of the professional event. (His second year with this placing)
Duncan Millar made it into the finals of the professional event. Of 75 entrants, only 12 drummers qualify to compete in the event final, so this is (not to forget Reid) and incredible accomplishment.
Cameron Bullis (drum Sargent of the RMM Grade 3 band) made the finals (also limited to 12) of his event, and placed 7th overall in the under 15 category. There were 50 competitors in the under 15 event this year. ( Cameron placed has previously place 4th and 3rd in this event.)
I believe Stuart Liddel piped for all three.
These (as far as I know) were the only West Coast (North America) drummers to compete in the World Championships.
