August 30, 1999 - Competition Results (RMM PB & more) from a month in Scotland

We (parents, siblings and band members - of the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band - Juvenile /  Grade 3) returned last night to Vancouver, having spent 25 very enjoyable, and memorable days in Scotland.  The RMM Juvenile Band's  triumphant tour of Scotland concluded with a greeting by the RMM Grade 4 band at the Vancouver Airport - a wonderful end to the trip.

Not only did the band return home as World Champions in their class (their drum corp was top too), they (with  current membership - going back more than 12 months) have not lost a contest in Grade 3, or Juvenile, and they actually finished first in three Scottish Grade 2 band contests.

The Kids played in a total of 7 Scottish games, in a total of 12 events:

Date: Location / Name Grade 3 Juvenile Grade 2
August 7, 1999 Inverkeithing Games 1st   1st
August 8, 1999 Bridge of Allen Games 1st   5th
August 14, 1999 World Pipe Band Championship   FIRST
August 15, 1999 Perth Games 1st   1st
August 21, 1999 Rothesay Games 1st   3rd
August 22, 1999 Creiff Games 1st   1st
August 28, 1999 Cowal Games   FIRST

With the exception of the two Juvenile contests (which were the MSR), all events were the Medley.

Other News: Now, as you probably know by now there was other good news at the World Pipe Band Championship:  The parent band in the organization won too, in a spectacular fashion:

The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band is the World Champion Pipe Band for 1999! (their 3rd World championship in the last five years!), and ..... Reid Maxwell's drum corp is the Drum Corp Champions  (this is the first time in 12 years that the Schott's drum corp did not win! - amazingly, the last non Schott's corps to win was ... Reid's also..)

And.. it was a pretty good day for WUSPBA bands too - The L.A. Scots made it into the final of the Grade 1 contest, and their's is the Bass Section World Champion. - And the High Desert Pipes and Drums are the Grade 4B Championship.

And .. it was a pretty great day for North American Grade 2 Bands:  Five of the top six positions were filled by North American Grade 2 Pipe Bands, including the new Champions of Grade 2 - The City of Washington Pipe Band.

Those seem to be all the highlights that I remember right now..From your jet lagged reporter:

Bob..

August 3, 1999 - BCPA 1999 Grand Aggregate Final Standings:

As announced in the Spring Newsletter, the BCPA will recognise Grand Aggregate winners for each competitive class.  The results from each solo and band event were tracked by the 'BCPA scoring and results team' (primarily Robert MacNeil and Mary MacKinnon) for the entire (outdoor) season - with points being awarded for the prize winners in each event.  The points for each event for the entire season were then added up, and following are the top six finishers in each class for 1999.
