March 29 + 30, 2002 - The BC Pipers' Association 70th Annual Gathering

Simon Fraser University:
WOW ! (to put it simply)
aIMG_7412.jpg (22569 bytes)Amazingly well run - in fact, I don't know of any other  piping event of a similar size running so smoothly and well.  I think two main factors are the source of this excellence:

1) The dozens of hard working volunteers. As a small token of thanks, I am creating a BCPipers photo album with photos of most (I hope?) of them - they are truly a treasure of the Association.

2) The SFU Venue - lots of rooms for the crowds, for tuning,  for the competition events, and even for spectators - in fact the total number of rooms used was something like 35!  Large hallways, lots of informational. signs - it was very well setup.

Photos will be shared on the BCpipers site; we will post a reporting video, and you'll find results below.

The quick summary:

Thanks to the large venue, all Piobaireachd events were held on Friday at the SFU.

aIMG_7379.jpg (30980 bytes)In the evening was the judges recital.  A new venue for this event, and very much a success I think. The attendance was more than double the anticipated - I'm told - And this is  probably at least in part a result of this guy (on the left).. Jack Lee, seen here walking onto the platform. This was a (somewhat) rare local recital, and it was great!

The BCPipers site will have photos of all three Judges taken during their performance.

aIMG_7391.jpg (28279 bytes)Saturday was a very full day. Light music in the morning, Pro piping in the afternoon, mini-band in the early evening, awards and photos, then the Ceilidh. Whew..

Photo on the right was taken during a lull in activity during the morning.. Here you see a typical hallway in Quad.. registration table on the left, informational signs and boards on the right, classrooms all around.

A few sample photos - visit BCPipers.org to see (a lot) more..

And now, thanks to Robert MacNeil, the results and some other interesting information:
