June 1, 2002 - Bellingham Highland Games

aIMG_0256.jpg (10258 bytes)A more beautiful venue is hard to imagine, Mt. Baker in the distance, and all events held in the Hovander Homestead Park, in Ferndale. With record entries, a record spectator crowd, and spectacular weather, this was a wonderful Highland Games day!

Below a number of  photos (8!) have been merged to provide a panorama of the main piping venue.(A larger version of this panorama can be found on the BCPipers web site.)

To the left is the solo and band competition area. Center are  the scoring and information areas, and the right is the start of the vendor, athletics, and kids play areas which actually continues beyond what is shown here.

Only 228 photos taken by your humble reporter (this was an ongoing joke throughout the day - many people would ask me how many photos I had taken "so far".. I wonder .. is there a hidden message there? (All in good fun).

taIMG_0239.jpg (9754 bytes)19 Pipe Bands competed this day - a record..

In the image to the right  they are assembled for the final massed bands. Grade 1 and 2 on the left, Grade 3 and 4 on the right - well organized, quite a popular conclusion to the day.

An announcement stated there were (as I recall) 13,000 spectators!

180 solo competitors, a record too.  What a success!

bIMG_0159.jpg (11024 bytes)Once again, results were captured and sent in by Rob MacNeil - seen here 'at work' (thanks Rob)

The BCPipers site will have many photos from the day(!),

And a video report will be posted there soon too.

And now.. from Rob .. the Results:
