May 18, 2002 - Comox Valley Highland Games

seagulFor many of us, this is an annual weekend outing - We take a  ferry over to Vancouver Island on Friday (or early Saturday), then head up to Comox. After the Comox Games we jump in our cars, head down to Victoria and our Hotels, ready for the Sunday Victoria Games.

As you'd guess, I took hundreds (427 to be exact) of photos this weekend; to the right is one taken on our way over to the Island, and (as you can see) I liked it; it reminds me of the ferry ride..

Comox once again arranged (?) for a great Saturday - Sunshine (!), (Oops - I seemed to have forgotten about that.. we brought no sunblock - we did have rain capes, umbrellas, jackets.. - and now.. sunburns.) lots of music, both solos and bands (amazing - local bands, quite a few of them), lots of friends to visit, it was a great start to our outdoor season(s). (Yes - it just occurred to  me.. this was the start of our outdoor piping season.. AND - our 'beer tent season' - HA - it was great to be in Comox)

This is a very well run games, in a beautiful park, and memorable is the spectator entry fee..  imagine - $3 CDN to get in! Is this one of the few bargains left in Piping?

Check the BCPipers site for a photo album.

Now - the results:

( Many thanks to Rob MacNeil for sending these to us - Sorry but I am very rushed, so no time to change the format)

May 19 - Victoria Highland Games

aIMG_9421.jpg (26223 bytes)This day started off with cool weather, a very little wind, and an overcast that we thought might be hiding the sun.. (We were not sure.. it was not hiding the sun after all we learned..)

Held on the grounds of the Royal Roads University - this venue is spectacular.  A field for each activity, looking down to the ocean, up to a building that looks like a castle. - the only drawback is that we must do a lot of walking.. Oh well..

It was not until later in the day that the weather decided rain was in order.. but is was a light rain.. just enough to 'dampen' the event.

aIMG_9571.jpg (16669 bytes)And, once we were done with the day, on the ferry and heading home, the sun decided to peak at as - briefly.. Another photo (that I like) shows this:

An enjoyable day, and a great end to our vancouver Island weekend.

And now results from this event - again many thanks to Rob MacNeil.
