To all members of the BC Pipers’ Association, and our wider piping, drumming, and pipe band
families, both near and far—

The 92nd Annual Gathering was a celebration of music, tradition, and community. So much great music was shared, countless memories were formed, and yes—adversity was met and overcome with grace and perseverance. Through it all, the camaraderie and spirit of this remarkable community shone brightly. We’ve already received some thoughtful feedback—both positive and constructive—and we welcome it. It’s that kind of honest reflection that will help us continue to grow and improve for next year. Your voice matters. Please continue to reach out.

What truly stood out this weekend was how the international language of music erased all borders. We came together not just as competitors, but as friends. That sense of unity and connection was palpable in every hallway, tuning room, and performance. We celebrated two historic milestones in BCPA history with a special gathering of members — marking 45 years since the Vancouver Ladies Pipe Band’s groundbreaking Worlds win, and 30 years since the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band’s unforgettable Grade One World Championship victory.

It was truly wonderful to reconnect, catch up, and honour the remarkable legacy and achievements of both bands. What a fantastic evening celebrating you — your dedication, your music, and your lasting impact on our community.

We also took a moment to honour one of our own. We said goodbye to a Life Member with a heartfelt lament and a fitting toast. His memory lives on in the music we play and the bonds we share. Rest easy, Ron.

There were moments of darkness—literally —but through it all, the music prevailed. Your resilience and positivity in those times were nothing short of inspiring. Thank you for rolling with it, for lifting one another up, and for keeping the tunes alive no matter what. The competition results show that our association is healthy, vibrant, and thriving. Our future—your future—is bright.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the countless volunteers, board members, organizers, adjudicators, performers, and supporters who made this Gathering possible. Without you, this event simply could not happen. We owe you all our deepest gratitude. That said, we also recognize that in order to continue building on this success, we need more hands, more hearts, and more great people. If you’re able to help in any way—big or small—please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can continue to grow this incredible organization for generations to come.

With the Indoor behind us, a new season begins—full of fresh commitment, new goals, and renewed passion. Whether you’re on the grass, the boards, or simply supporting from the sidelines, enjoy every moment of it. You’ve earned it.

Take care of yourselves. Stay safe. Play hard. And I’ll see you on the grass.
With appreciation,

David Hilder
President
