Northwest Junior Pipe Band

*When and who formed NWJPB?
Northwest Junior Pipe Band was formed in 1995, under the direction of Charlie McNeil
and a handful of local instructors including Ian MacDonald, Lawrie MacKenzie, Colin
MacRae, Marcie MacRae and Davie Moore.

  • How many members do you currently have and where are most from?
Currently we have roughly 50 kids involved in the program, including beginners, Grade
5 and Grade 4. Being the only youth band in the state, the band attracts young pipers
and drummers from all over Western Washington – from as far north as Oak Harbor and
as far south as Tacoma. The bulk of the band’s membership hails from Seattle north.
  • Where and how often does the Band practise?
NWJPB is based on the border between the cities of Shoreline and Edmonds,
Washington. The band practices at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach on
Tuesday evenings – with beginner lessons (Pipe Band School) starting at 5:30 and
band practice running 6:30-8:30. We practice every Tuesday night as well as one
    Sunday per month.

    including two 5th places – 2008 and 2011, and 6th place in 2015.
 Performed at the Piping Live Festival several times and opened for the Battlefield

  • 2025 World’s Trip
This will be our 5th trip to Scotland, which will include a run at the European Championships, performances at the Piping Live Festival, a side trip to Edinburgh, attending the pre-World’s concert and a rehearsal at the National Piping Centre. Fingers crossed for good weather!
  • Fun Facts
We once loaned a side drum to the Red Hot Chilli Pipers because theirs got lost in
    airline baggage!
  • submitted by Kevin Auld

“The BC Pipers’ Association wishes the Northwest Junior Pipe Band every success on your musical journey- may your music speak the universal language that knows no borders, as you compete at the European Championship and on the World stage at Glasgow Green August 2025! Good Luck!”
