Here’s to Grandpa, may he be remembered for all the responsibility he carried for the family, the songs he was forever singing and for all the goodness he invited in every day.

With heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of William (Bill) Dow on July 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Bill is fondly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Mary; his children Bill (Sandy), Laurie (Randy), and Linda; his five grandchildren; and his eight great-grandchildren. Also, Bill’s two sisters Jean (Hugh) and Anne (John), whom he spoke fondly of.

Born in Bellshill Scotland, Bill immigrated to Canada in 1957, initially working with the Bradley family on their farm. Mary later joined him from Scotland, and together they established a life centered on family and dedication. Bill and Mary relocated to Colony Farm, raised their family, and where he managed dairy operations until the early 1980’s when the farm closed.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and respected friend, Bill made significant contributions to his community. In his thirties, Bill embraced the bagpipes, becoming a prominent figure within the piping community and leading pipe bands affiliated with the Burnaby, Port Coquitlam, and Mission Legions. His musical talents enriched numerous parades, ceremonies, and community events.

During retirement, Bill enjoyed the quieter aspects of life, including morning visits to McDonald’s, daily yoga with Mary, and time shared with his expanding family. He continued to play the bagpipes well into his 70’s! His warmth, sharp wit, and enduring love for his family leave a lasting legacy.

A private family gathering will honour Bill’s life. Condolences can be posted via Remembering William Dow.

The British Columbia Pipers’ Association extends our heartfelt condolences to Bill’s family and friends.
