As part of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association’s new eight-contest Champion of Champions League, the British Columbia Pipers Association is pleased to release details of the RSPBA Pacific Rim Drumming Championship.

The competition, presented by the British Columbia Pipers’ Association will be on June 15th in Coquitlam, BC. The prestigious event will be hosted by, ScotFestBC: the 92nd annual British Columbia Highland Games. This event offers North American drummers an opportunity to qualify for the World Solo Drumming Championship semifinal in Glasgow, Scotland in October. The winner of the event will win the J.Reid Maxwell Medal, styled with an orange ribbon as a tip of the hat to Maxwell’s signature orange ball cap. The top six places secure points towards the 2024 RSPBA Adult World Solo Snare Drumming Champion of Champion title.

The RSPBA judges for the event will be Davey Brown from Aberdeen, Scotland and Duncan Millar from Coquitlam, BC. The event will take place at Coquitlam Town Centre Park on the “Big Tent” Stage. Entries for all Piping, Drumming, and Band events at ScotfestBC will open March 31, through Wild Apricot. 

ScotFestBC executive director Mike Chisholm says, he is thrilled that the RSPBA qualifier will be held at the British Columbia Highland Games this year. “This is a feather in the cap for our event and solidifies our position as one of the preeminent Highland Games on the West Coast. Maybe Vancouver will host the World’s someday.”
