John Paul DaSilva, CD, has been appointed Senior Drum Major of the British Columbia Pipers’ Association, bringing with him decades of experience as a performer, instructor, and leader within the piping and drumming community.

DaSilva has served as Drum Major of the Greighlan Crossing Pipe Band since 2015 and has held Drum Major appointments with multiple organizations over the course of his career, including the Delta Police Pipe Band, Maple Ridge Pipe Band and Triumph Street Pipe Band. In February 2025, he was appointed Lead Drum Major for the Massed Pipes and Drums of the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver, where he organized, staged, and choreographed a ceremonial performance involving 332 participants — one of the largest coordinated pipe band performances staged in the region. He is also a member of the Greighlan Crossing Pipe Band’s Drum Corps, which was awarded the Grade 3 Top Drum Corps title at the World Pipe Band Championships in 2024, reflecting his ongoing engagement with competitive performance at the international level.

Beyond performance, John Paul, has been deeply involved in instruction, mentorship, and organizational leadership. He has served as a drum and drum major instructor with several pipe bands and public service pipe band organizations, and is an active composer and instructor in both individual and corps drumming. “JP’s” communication and practical leadership work emphasizes discipline, consistency, and respect for tradition. He has also dedicated his time and knowledge contributing extensively at the governance level within the pipe band community, serving as President, Director-at-Large, and currently Treasurer of the District 5050 Pipe Band Society.

Outside of the pipe band world, John Paul is a retired Captain of the Canadian Forces (Army), Cadet Instructors Cadre, and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration in recognition of twelve years of military service. His background in military leadership and ceremonial training continues to inform his approach to Drum Major responsibilities, with a strong focus on professionalism, mentorship, and service.

As Senior Drum Major of the BC Pipers’ Association, John Paul DaSilva looks forward to working closely with Honourary Drum Major John Nichol in a period of continuity and transition, and collaborating with pipe bands, adjudicators, event organizers, and the BC Pipers’ leadership. His priorities include supporting Drum Majors at all levels, strengthening consistency in ceremonial standards, and fostering the ongoing development and visibility of the Drum Major tradition across British Columbia and the broader Pacific Northwest.
