Colin Magee
Colin Magee, originally from Glasgow, Scotland, was a piper and Lead Drummer with the City of Victoria Pipe Band and has been a piper and Lead Drummer with the Greater Victoria Police Pipe Band for the past 25 years. He is also an accredited BCPA Judge, an instructor with the Capital City Pipe Band youth organization and an internationally recognized composer. Colin is a retired Executive Director with the former Provincial Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Edward McIlwaine
Edward MacIlwaine, from Vancouver, Canada, was originally taught by well-known BCPA member and wartime Pipe Major James Watt, CD. Ed competes successfully in solo piping at home and abroad. A Past President of the British Columbia Pipers’ Association, Ed continues behind the scenes supporting the BCPA online registration and membership sites. Now, in this new role with the BCPA, he is following in the footsteps of his father RH (Bob) McIlwaine, who was a long-serving BCPA Trustee / Counsellor. Outside of the piping world, Ed has a BA in English (UBC), but has spent most of his working life in the commercial fishing industry. Since 2011 he has managed Cantrawl Nets Ltd., a manufacturer of commercial fishing gear based in Steveston, BC.
Doug Puddifant
Enjoying the semi retirement as of July 2020, selling my company “Westpoint Sales Inc” after 35 years in the plumbing business. Presently continue to be involved in the operation of commercial/residential properties and a Pub I own. I am very fortunate in having the best ever partner “Nancy”. We divide our time between a home in Vancouver and a farm on Keats Island. I became involved with pipes & drums very early in my lif, the Queens Own Cameron Highlander Cadets and the Airforce Auxilary Pipe Band in Winnipeg. When I arrived in Vancouver in 1967, I played with various Legion Pipe Bands enjoying a lot of great people and great times. Piping continues to be one of my favourite pastimes. The memories are priceless…
Hal Senyk
Hal Senyk is a retired lawyer and a veteran piper/ pipe major on the West Coast. Hal received his initial piping instruction in Montreal, then moved to Victoria in the early 1960’s. Having played for the Canadian Scottish Regiment until 1971, Hal then went to live in Scotland and played with the legendary Muirhead & Sons Pipe Band, 5 time World Champion Grade 1.
Over the next 20 years, Hal served as Pipe Major of the Triumph Street pipe band for much of that time, as the newly formed band established itself as one of the premier Grade 1 bands in North America and the world. After Hal’s retirement from the band in the early 1990’s, he played with the Abbotsford and Maple Ridge (New Westminster Police) bands. For the last 20 years he has been one of the instructors with the White Spot juvenile band.
Hal was also a successful solo competitor for many years, having won many professional prizes in light music and piobaireachd. He was the first Canadian to win a major prize in Scotland, winning the March competition in Inverness in 1972. This set the stage for more Canadians to make their mark on the Scottish piping scene. Hal has been an active teacher and adjudicator for many years, and a past director of the BCPA. He is also a senior adjudicator, and has been a member of the adjudicators’ committee with the BC Pipers’ Association.
BYLAW 8. – COUNSELLORS
8.1 The duties of the Counsellors shall be to provide management advice and counsel to the Board of Directors to ensure that they are meeting the objects of the Society, as expressed in the Constitution of the Association, in effective and efficient ways and in the long term interest of the Association.
8.2 Four Counsellors shall be appointed by the Board according to bylaw 8.3. Counsellors shall be members who are not members of the Board and may be reappointed. The Board may appoint a member to fill a vacancy in the Counsellors.
8.3 The first contingent of two Counsellors shall be appointed in even numbered years that are leap years and to a term of four years. The second contingent of two Counsellors shall be appointed in even numbered years that are not leap years and to a term of four years. Following the Annual General Meeting in calendar year 2012, the Board of Directors shall appoint the second contingent of two Counsellors to a term of two years.
