The Boney Music Memorial Invitational is an annual piping competition and recital in memory of Andrew Bonar featuring the top Open pipers in the BC Pipers’ Association Grand Aggregate standings. The 2025 competitors are Grand Aggregate winner, Alastair Lee, Zephan Knichel, Cameron Bonar, Alan Bevan and Craig Sutherland. The competition was initiated in 2016 by BCPA Life Member Andrew Bonar and is being continued by the BCPA at Andrew’s request following his passing in October 2017.

Donations will also be accepted in-person on the evening of the event.

2025 Music Requirements

This year’s musical requirements are created by Andrew Bonar. Players will play a 20 minute recital of tunes of their choice, however, within the 20 minutes, players must include the following –

  • Ground of a Piobaireachd
  • At least two, two-parted Strathspeys
  • At least one four-parted 4/4 march
  • At least one tune in 9/8 time
  • At least one tune written by Andrew Bonar or a tune from Boney Music Book 1

Players may tune as often and as long as they feel necessary. However, the tuning time is included in the recital time limit so the longer the player tunes the less time that the player has to perform.
