Dear BC Pipers’ Association Members, December 4th 2024
I am honored to step into the role of President of the BC Pipers’ Association, and
I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to our outgoing
President, Rene Cusson, and to our outgoing Director and Treasurer, Cam Reid,
for their dedication, leadership, and service to our association. Their
contributions over the years have been immeasurable, and we are all grateful for
the strong foundation they have helped build.
I believe in the power of collaboration, and I’m proud to say that we have a board
where everyone has an oar in the water, rowing in the same direction. We will
approach every decision with the guiding question: “will it make the boat go
faster?” This philosophy ensures that we are always focused on progress and
improving our collective experience. Whether we are planning events, managing
finances, or developing new initiatives, each member of our board brings
valuable expertise, and we will work together toward one common goal: the
continued growth and success of BC Pipers Association.
As we move forward, I am excited to welcome our new board members, as well
as those who have been re-elected and those who are beginning their second
year of their terms. Together, we are well-positioned to continue the important
work of supporting and fostering the spirit of piping and drumming in our
community.
I would also like to take this moment to highlight our incoming Director and
newly appointed Treasurer, Charlene Wallis. With over 40 years of experience in
the banking industry and a distinguished background as the past Pipe Major of
the Vancouver Ladies Pipe Band, Charlene brings an invaluable skill set to the
board. In fact, we are fortunate to have three past Pipe Majors of the Vancouver
Ladies Pipe Band on our board, including Charlene, Shaunna Hilder, and
Michelle MacPhail—each of whom brings their unique leadership experience to
our Association. Of course, I would be remiss to not mention our new Life
Member and Past Lead Drummer of Vancouver Ladies Pipe Band, as well as
Band Manager of the White Spot Pipe Band, Kyla MacNeil who is returning for yet
another term. Your new board is diverse, equitable and inclusive and we
welcome any communication from our membership.
Additionally, I am thrilled to welcome back Lynn Bullis to the board. Lynn’s years
of service as Chief Steward at our games have been invaluable, providing a
steady and consistent approach that has made our events run smoothly and
professionally. Her commitment and attention to detail have set a high standard,
and we are fortunate to have her back on the board.
With such a strong and experienced team in place, I am confident that BC Pipers
Association is in good hands. Together, we will continue to strengthen our
organization, support our members, and uphold the rich traditions of piping and
drumming in British Columbia, Washington and Oregon.
Thank you all for your continued support and dedication. I look forward to
working with each of you in the coming year to make BC Pipers’ Association an
even stronger and more vibrant community.
Warm regards,
David Hilder

Looking for some information. Our Mom was a member of the Vancouver Ladies Pipe Band in the 1950’s. As we are cleaning out her home after her passing we have found pictures, music, uniforms, drum sticks and dance shoes.
We are wondering if you can put us in touch with anyone affiliated with the Ladies Pipe Band or if they have been amalgamated with another organization.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank you
Hi Christine, I am so sorry for your loss. Please email michelle.macphail@bcpipers.org and I will get you in touch with someone from the Ladies’ who would might have known your mom. The band no longer is running, but has a large alumni group, including myself.
kind regards,
Michelle
