The BC Pipers’ Association is proud to announce that the 2023 Boney Music Memorial Invitational Competition and Recital is back this year, live, on Saturday, February 11th, and everyone is invited. Let us introduce you to one of this years participants, Alastair Lee.
Alastair started with the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band. Joining SFU in 2008, he was privileged to win the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championship in his first two tries (2008 & 2009). In concert, Alastair can be seen playing both pipes and keyboards.
As well, solo pipe competition has been a focus for Alastair. In Scotland he is now in the Former Winners MSR at Oban as well as the Gold Medal for Piobaireachd at Oban and Inverness. Alastair also plays for highland dancing on a regular basis.
In his private life Alastair graduated with honours in 2013 from the Art Institute of Vancouver in professional sound engineering. He currently works full-time at the well-known Scottish importing firm Tartantown Ltd. as a bagpipe technician, shipper and sales associate.
This event celebrates the memory of Andrew Bonar, a great BC piper, while raising funds, in his name, for brain cancer research in BC. Join us at the Seaforth Armoury, 1650 Burrard Street, Vancouver. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. Performances begin at 7:00 pm. Highland Dress is welcome. There will be a liquor service. Livestreaming will also be available on the BC Pipers’ Association Facebook page.
This year’s participants include Alan Bevan, Gordon Conn, Zephan Knichel, Alastair Lee, and Jamie Kubasiewicz. There will be a special performance by Cameron Bonar.
This event is free, however BCPA will be accepting donations online for the BC Cancer Foundation. Canadian charitable tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more. This is our donation page: BC Cancer Foundation Boney Invitational Donation Page
